FAQ

Question:  What is fiscal year reporting for teachers, judges and educational support personnel?

Answer:

The annual earnings period for teachers, judges and educational support personnel is based on a fiscal year of July 1 through June 30, even though contributions are paid on a calendar year basis. ETF records the fiscal year hours and earnings from January 1 through June 30 and combines this information with previously reported calendar year information to calculate WRS service and earnings on a fiscal year basis.

The fiscal year information for January through June must always be included in the calendar year hours of service and earnings. For example, the fiscal year area of the termination report will contain hours and earnings for January through June. And, the calendar year area of the termination report will contain hours and earnings for January 1 through December 31. Calendar year information is always greater than or equal to the fiscal year information.

Teachers that work under a nine- or ten-month contract, and elect to be paid over a twelve-month period of time, must have their hours of service and earnings reported in the January through June portion of the termination report, even though they will be paid in July and August. All other teachers, judges and educational support personnel are reported on a when-paid basis.
