WRS Military Service Credit - Continuous
Military Service Credit
Continuous Military Service Credit is based on Wisconsin state
law. It applies to military service credit for time in the U.S.
Armed Forces on or after January 1, 1974, and provides you with
Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) service credit for your military
service, up to a maximum of four years.
It requires that:
- you left the employment of a WRS employer to enter the U.S.
- you return to your pre-service WRS employer within 180 days
of release or discharge from the military, or within 180 days
of release from hospitalization because of injury or sickness
resulting from that service in the armed forces; and
- your military service discharge must have been other than dishonorable.
There are some unusual circumstances under which you may qualify
for WRS military service credit, such as time spent in the U.S.
Maritime Service between 1941 and 1945, or if you had military service
as a teacher earlier than 1967.
