New Video: SWIB Executive Director Talks Risk Reduction,
Stock market performance in 2015 and early 2016 indicate we are in an environment where it will be possible to make money, but there will be significant investment challenges moving forward. Many economists believe this “low return” environment will result in investment returns over the next decade similar to those we have seen the past couple of years, rather than the higher ones we saw in the 1980s and 1990s.
The State of Wisconsin Investment Board has implemented a strategy that is designed to add protection to the Wisconsin Retirement System and stabilize, as much as possible, investment returns and, in turn, contribution rates for active employees and their employers, and annuity adjustments for retirees.
In a new video produced by SWIB, Executive Director Michael Williamson explains the challenges facing SWIB and the WRS, the effect investment volatility can have on WRS participants, SWIB’s investment strategy and other initiatives SWIB is implementing to protect the WRS investments.
