2023 Health Care Premiums

This section outlines total premium amounts for plan year 2023 for different types of employees (active employees, UW graduate assistants, etc.), continuants, and retirees (with or without Medicare). A premium is the amount of money charged by your health plan for the plan design you've chosen. It is usually paid on a monthly basis, but can be billed a number of ways.

Premiums are one factor to consider when choosing a health plan or plan design.

  • Generally, the less you pay per visit, the more you pay per month for your premium.
  • If you choose a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), which has a lower premium, consider putting the premium savings in a Health Savings Account (HSA) pre-tax to pay for health care services.
  • All non-Medicare plan designs and health plans offer the same in-network Uniform Benefits. Medicare Advantage and Medicare Plus plans vary slightly, review the Medicare Plan Designs Quick Comparison page to learn more.
