MyWisconsin ID

My Benefits uses MyWisconsin ID, which allows citizens to create a single account linked to their personal email address for access to participating Wisconsin government websites. In the future, more services will require a MyWisconsin ID.

If you don’t have a MyWisconsin ID yet, you can create an account by clicking Login on the My Benefits for Members page, then selecting Sign Up. You must provide a personal email address (not wisconsin.gov or wi.gov), which will become your username.

If you already have a MyWisconsin ID for another purpose, you will use those same login credentials.

Watch Get Started with My Benefits for detailed instructions or visit the MyWisconsin ID page from the Division of Enterprise Technology (DET). After following DET's instructions, return to the My Benefits page to complete the sign-in process.

Universities of Wisconsin (UWs) employees: Visit the UWs Knowledge Base for instructions on how to set up your MyWisconsin ID and access the My Benefits portal. Here are some helpful tips:

  • Use your personal information, including email address (not your wisc.edu or Wisconsin.edu email), home address, and phone number.
  • If you do not have a Social Security Number (SSN), enter your Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) in the SSN field. If you do not have either an SSN or an ITIN, enter your UWs-issued Reporting ID in the SSN field to start your account creation, and follow any further instructions provided to complete verification.
  • New UWs employees: Your employer will need to enroll you with ETF before you are able to establish your MyWisconsin ID. Once your employer submits your information, it may take up to 48 hours for it to appear in ETF systems. Do not attempt to create a second MyWisconsin ID during this time.

For additional MyWisconsin ID support, please call the MyWisconsin ID Account Service Desk at 608-471-6667.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

To secure your account, you will need to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). MFA adds an additional layer of protection by requiring both your password and a second form of verification—such as a code sent to your phone—to help prevent unauthorized access to your account.

Choose one of four MFA options when creating your account. If you select an option that uses an app (e.g., Google Authenticator), ensure it’s downloaded first.

Identity Verification

When you access My Benefits for the first time, you'll be asked to verify your identity by providing some demographic details, such as your social security number, date of birth, and address. For easier verification, we recommend using a physical or street address. You won’t need to do this for future logins.

If we’re unable to verify your identity, you may be asked to upload a photo of yourself along with your driver’s license or passport for further verification.

Viewing Your Statement

To view your WRS Annual Statement of Benefits, please ensure that pop-ups are enabled, as the statement will open in a new window. Most browsers block pop-ups by default.

If you need help, you can search online for instructions on how to enable pop-ups for your specific browser.

My Insurance Benefits

My Insurance Benefits allows Universities of Wisconsin (UWs) employees to securely enroll in, change, or review their insurance benefits. This functionality will expand to include state, University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, and local employees and retirees in 2026.

UWs employees: To access My Insurance Benefits for the first time via the My Benefits portal, you will need to set up your MyWisconsin ID. This is a one-time registration where you will create login credentials, which you will use long term to view and manage most of your benefits. If you already have a MyWisconsin ID for another purpose, you will use those same login credentials. See the MyWisconsin ID section on this page for some helpful tips.

Check out the My Insurance Benefits video or refer to the My Insurance Benefits Member Guide (ET-1109) for step-by-step instructions on how to use the application.

UWs job aids are also available to help with your qualifying life events and Health Savings Account.
