Under state law, monthly WRS annuities are payable on the first day of the month. When that day falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment date is moved to the following business day.

In 2025, half of the scheduled annuity payment dates will be affected and moved to corresponding settlement dates:

Affected DateSettlement Date
Jan. 1 (Holiday)Jan. 2 (Thursday)
Feb. 1 (Saturday)Feb. 3 (Monday)
March 1 (Saturday)March 3 (Monday)
June 1 (Sunday)June 2 (Monday)
Sept. 1 (Holiday)Sept. 2 (Tuesday)
Nov. 1 (Saturday)Nov. 3 (Monday)

There are, however, a few notable exceptions, as described below.

Electronic Automated Clearing House (ACH) Deposit

In some cases, your bank may choose to make the funds available to you prior to the scheduled date, regardless of the Federal Reserve business schedule.

In other cases, payments may not be deposited in your bank account until the afternoon of the settlement date. This depends on each individual bank’s internal process.

Each bank makes this decision individually. Some banks do not allow access until the funds are received from the Federal Reserve, while others allow it. Similarly, some banks do not process any electronic deposits on Saturdays, while some do.

Contact your bank regarding its policy for handling ACH payments dated on non-business days.

Payments via Paper Check

Checks are printed and delivered to the post office on the last mailing day of the month. For example, if the first day of the month is a Saturday, checks are delivered to the post office on Friday. Your actual receipt date will depend on the speed of the mail delivery.

We encourage you to consider changing to ACH payment deposits. Though ACH payments sometimes may be delayed by a day or two due to federal banking rules, ACH is by far the fastest and most secure way to receive payments.

Today, 99% of WRS annuitants are enrolled in ACH and enjoy the security of knowing where their money is on the scheduled payment date.

To change to ACH payments, complete and submit a Direct Deposit Authorization (ET-7282) form.
