Reaching the middle stages of your career may mean competing demands from your professional responsibilities, family life, and personal needs. This milestone, however, can also have a lot in your favor when it comes to retirement planning.

Mid-career is usually the period when employees enter their prime earning years, which means having more to set aside for the future. Retirement isn’t the distant dream it used to be, and it’s gradually becoming a reality.

Important things to keep in mind about retirement future at the mid-career stage include your future income needs and current retirement contribution levels.

Along with a WRS pension, a supplemental retirement savings plan like the Wisconsin Deferred Compensation Program (WDC) is equally important for WRS members to grow their personal savings and attain a financially comfortable and secure retirement.

In May and June, the WDC will host 30-minute webinars on "Retirement Planning with WDC" for non-retired WRS members — both WDC participants and non-participants. Topics include sources of retirement income, pre-retirement outlook, taking a withdrawal and accessing your WDC account, and WDC's Retirement Readiness Reviews. A local WDC retirement plan advisor will be available to answer questions and provide additional resources.
