Disability Retirement Benefits

A disability retirement benefit is a lifetime annuity paid to eligible WRS employees who become disabled and are unable to work until normal retirement age.

Financial Power of Attorney

Your WRS account information is confidential, and no one can receive information about or make changes to your account unless authorized. You can authorize another person to make changes to your account by submitting a financial power of attorney document to ETF.

Guardianship

A guardian is appointed by a court when a person is unable to make or communicate medical decisions, financial decisions, or both. Learn how Letters of Guardianship can impact a WRS account.

What Your Agent Can Do

Your financial power of attorney document determines the scope of your agent's authority. You may give your agent the ability to make many changes to your WRS account or limit them to a few actions.

Disability Benefits

If you become disabled while working for a WRS employer, you may be eligible to receive WRS disability benefits that will give you income for the time you are unable to return to work.

Annual Requirements for Disability Benefits

Each year, recipients of disability benefits must complete and submit form(s) to ensure that their benefits continue without interruption. It is crucial that all required forms are submitted timely to prevent suspension of the benefit.

Statement of Incapacity

Some financial power of attorney documents require that the principal is incapacitated before the agent can act on their behalf.
