Due to 2023 Wisconsin Act 4, county correctional officers (jailers) who are categorized as general employees will become protective occupation employees under the Wisconsin Retirement System, unless they opt out. Learn about who is affected, decision deadlines, and what this means for a jailer’s WRS benefits.
The Duty Disability Insurance Program is an income replacement program. Duty disability benefits may be payable to protective occupation participants if you have been injured while performing your duties or contracted a disease due to your occupation.
The WRS covers employees of the state of Wisconsin and employees of local government employers who elect to participate, and Milwaukee Public School District teachers.
