When You Are a New Hire
Review the UW System Employee Benefits General Employee Information page for enrollment information and instructions.
New employees can use the MyUW Portal to enroll in most benefits online.
If you have worked for the UW System or for a state agency in the past, you may need to enroll using paper applications.
If you’re unsure, contact your institution benefits contact to determine if you will be able to enroll via the MyUW Portal or if you will need to submit paper applications.
Graduate Assistants: If this is not your first eligible appointment, you may still be eligible for the initial 30-day enrollment period if you have had a 30-day employment break between appointments.
Contact your UW institution benefits contact if you have any questions.
When You Experience a Qualifying Life Event
For most plans, the elections you make are for the entire calendar year and cannot be changed outside of Annual Benefits Enrollment (ABE). However, if you experience a qualifying life event, you may be able to enroll in coverage or make changes to your existing benefits.
If you experience a qualifying life event, most benefit plans have a 30-day window to enroll or make changes. To enroll or make changes due to a qualifying life event, complete and submit paper applications to your institution benefits contact.
