Women are more likely to live in poverty during retirement. In general, women aren’t able to save as much money as men  for retirement because they earn less, spend time away from work because of caregiving and have less in savings and pensions. In addition, women generally outlive men, meaning that women need to fund a longer retirement period than men.

Being part of a defined benefit plan, like the Wisconsin Retirement System, reduces the likelihood that you’ll live in poverty after retirement. But you need to do more to build a strong financial future.

The following resources are available to help you plan for a financially secure retirement. Click on a title from the list to be taken to that section. Click on back to top to return to this list. Go to the bottom of the page to see three video resources.
